Printable Sailing Emergency Cards: Mayday, Crew Briefing, Rescue, Water, MOB, Heavy Weather And Fire
Emergency cards are for the moment when people are tired, wet, frightened or new to the boat.
The goal is simple: put the most important words, numbers, first actions and equipment locations where they can be read quickly by anyone on board.
Emergency Communication
Cards for Mayday, Pan-Pan, normal call reminders, boat name, MMSI, call sign, position notes, emergency contacts, safety gear locations and passage notes.
Use these near the VHF and chart table. A person who does not normally operate the radio should still be able to read the card and make a basic call.
Fire, Gas And Power Isolation
Cards for fire extinguishers, fire blanket, gas shutoff, alarms, battery banks, main switches, main fuses, busbars, inverter, chargers, shore power, solar controller and high-load switches.
Use these where crew can quickly find how to isolate fire, gas, CO and electrical hazards. The card is also useful for briefing new crew before leaving harbor.
Crew Briefing
Checklist cards for new crew, before leaving harbor, before night or rest, before heavy weather, and what to do if the skipper cannot lead.
Use these together with the boat manual or KSF Passage Companion so crew can find the right information without relying on memory.
These sheets are for common situations where a short reminder can help the skipper or crew act in the right order under stress.
Rescue
EPIRB, liferaft, aircraft overhead, helicopter winch, merchant-ship assistance and the basic sequence for staying findable while waiting for help.
Flooding
Pumps, seacocks, plugs, softwood, collision mat, first crew roles and what to check first when water is entering the boat.
Crew Overboard
First actions, recovery points, boarding ladder, throwing gear, engine caution and singlehanded self-recovery gear.
Weather
Jacklines, reefing, storm sails, drogue, loose gear, hatches, cockpit setup, food, water and crew preparation before the weather arrives.
The cards are not a replacement for understanding the emergency. They are a reminder system for use under stress.
