KSF Passage Companion for iPad Privacy Policy

This policy explains what the app stores locally, what can be stored in a user-selected iCloud Drive shared dataset folder, what is included in local backups, and what is sent only if you choose to send feedback.

Summary

KSF Passage Companion for iPad is free software. It does not sell personal data, does not include advertising, and does not use third-party ad tracking. Boat data is stored locally unless you choose to export a backup or link a shared iCloud Drive dataset.

Local App Data

  • The app stores boat name, MMSI, vessel notes, logbook entries, Voyage Story notes, Where Is? inventory and locations, provisioning crew/food/storage data, readiness checklist state, app appearance, backups, and safety snapshots locally in the app container.
  • If you enter crew, document, medical, provisioning, service, or inventory details, that information can be sensitive and remains under your control.
  • The first release does not read USB/serial NMEA data.

iCloud Shared Dataset

  • If you choose the shared workflow, the app can read/write a user-selected JSON file in iCloud Drive or Files.
  • The shared file includes boat identity, logbook, Voyage Story notes, Where Is? inventory/location data, provisioning plan data, readiness state, a revision number, and an advisory lock so one device can be the active editor.
  • Voyage Story photos are kept outside the main JSON as normal JPG sidecar files plus KSFPassageCompanion-VoyageMediaIndex.json in the same user-selected folder.
  • The app may ask you to grant access to the shared folder before those photo sidecars can be saved.
  • This is explicit save/reload handoff, not silent background multi-device sync.

Backups And Safety Snapshots

  • Local backups are exported as ZIP files with a manifest and checksums so damaged files can be detected before restore.
  • The app creates safety snapshots before data-replacing operations such as import, shared reload, or restore.
  • You choose where backups are saved and who can access them.

Feedback And Attachments

  • If you use feedback or bug report, the app sends only the information you enter and any attachment you choose.
  • Do not attach private logbooks, medical records, passport data, or other sensitive boat data unless it is necessary for support.
