KSF Passage Companion for Mac Privacy Policy

This policy explains what KSF Passage Companion for Mac stores locally, what can be stored in a user-selected shared iCloud Drive dataset, and what is sent only if you choose to use online feedback or support features.

Summary

KSF Passage Companion for Mac is free software. It does not sell personal data, does not include advertising, and does not use third-party ad tracking. Passage data is primarily stored locally on your Mac in files you control. If you choose the Mac/iPad workflow, the app can also read and write one user-selected shared dataset file in iCloud Drive.

Local App Data

  • The app stores boat identity, MMSI, vessel details, app settings, logbook entries, Voyage Story notes, Where Is? inventory, Provisioning data, readiness checklist state, passport/service records, NMEA input settings, backups and exports locally on your Mac.
  • If you enter crew, document, medical, provisioning, inventory or service information, that information is stored locally and can be sensitive.
  • Photos are either linked from your chosen location or copied/exported only when you choose that workflow.

NMEA And Position Data

  • The app can read NMEA0183 serial or UDP data you configure, including position, speed, course, heading, wind, depth, weather, attitude and related instrument data.
  • Automatic logbook entries and Voyage Story exports can include this data if you choose to record or export it.
  • The app does not transmit NMEA data to SailingKSF by default.

Shared iCloud Dataset

  • If you choose the shared workflow, the app can read/write a user-selected JSON file in iCloud Drive or another Files-accessible location.
  • The shared file is for explicit handoff between Mac and iPad: save on one device, release or close it, then reload on the other.
  • The shared dataset includes boat identity, logbook, Voyage Story notes, Where Is? inventory/location data, provisioning plan data, and readiness state.
  • This is not silent live multi-device sync, and it is not a replacement for full Mac backup ZIP files.

Feedback And Attachments

  • If you use Send Feedback / Bug Report, the app sends your name, email address, title, message, app version, platform details, and optional attachment to SailingKSF.
  • Attachments are optional and may include screenshots, PDF/TXT/LOG/JSON support files, or similar diagnostic material that you choose.
  • Do not attach private logbooks, medical records, passport data, or other sensitive data unless it is necessary for support.

Website Data

  • The download page can record basic view/download events and normal web-server logs for security and operational statistics.
  • Those records can include IP address, browser user-agent, requested URL, date/time, and download filename.
  • These records are used for security, abuse prevention, download statistics, and troubleshooting.

Backups And Exports

  • Backups, PDFs, CSV files, route exports, and support attachments are created only when you choose those actions.
  • Local backup ZIP files include manifests and checksums so damaged or incomplete files can be detected before restore.
  • You control where exported files are saved and who receives them.
